Installing Lync on Windows and Mac

The following are instructions for installing Microsoft Lync on Windows and Mac. If you have further questions, please contact us.

INSTALLING LYNC ON WINDOWS

1. In your internet browser, head to https://portal.microsoftonline.com/ and login to your Office 365 account.

2. Under Lync, click Install Lync.

3. Under the heading Install Microsoft Lync, select your language and version.
a.    To determine the version you need to select, open the Start menu on your computer and right click on Computer.
b.    Select Properties from the drop down list.

c.    Next to System type, you will see either 64-bit or 32-bit.window3

4. Click Install.

5. After downloading the file, run LyncSetup.exe and follow the installation instructions.

6. If you have Office desktop applications, under the section Set up and configure your Office desktop apps, click Set Up.

a.    Log into your account and wait for Microsoft Office 365 desktop setup to finish configuring.
b.    Check the boxes to configure Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Lync. Close the applications if they are running.
c.    Click Continue.
d.    Accept the Terms and Conditions.
e.    Click Finish.

INSTALLING LYNC ON MAC

1. In your internet browser, head to https://portal.microsoftonline.com/ and login to your Office 365 account.

2. Under Lync, click Install Lync.

3. Under the heading Install Microsoft Lync for Mac 2011, click Install.

4. After downloading the file, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

5. Start up Lync.

a.    Click Advanced at the bottom.

b.    Under Authentication, uncheck the Use Kerberos box.
c.    Under Connection Settings, click Manual configuration.
d.    In both the Internal Server Name box and the External Server Name box, type sipdir.online.lync.com:443.
e.    Click OK and you can now sign in.

Common Issue
Mac users will sometimes be unable to log in to Lync 2011. The error message that users will receive is “Lync was unable to sign in. Please verify your logon credentials and try again. If the problem continues, please contact your support team.”

1. To fix this issue, please verify that your logon credentials are correct by logging in at https://portal.microsoftonline.com/.
2. At Lync’s logon screen, click Advanced and verify that the settings have been configured like the image below.

3. If your credentials and settings are correct and you are still receiving the above error, click Lync at the menu at the top of your screen and then Quit Lync.

4. Click on Documents and open Microsoft User Data.

5. Open Microsoft Lync Data.

6. Delete all files within this folder.

7. Open Lync and try logging in again.
